Party With Trees 2015

Party With Trees 2015

As a capstone to the course, students were asked to complete a project focused on one of the many themes of the Party with Trees course, including botany, tree biology, urban ecology, landscape design and history, environmental education/bio-literacy, and the role of trees in culture and art.  To allow students a wide berth to creatively engage with the aspects of the course that most compelled them, and to accommodate the various forms projects across such a wide range of disciplines may take, we required only that students produce and present a “deliverable” — the format was entirely theirs to decide. Students brainstormed and wrote proposals of prospective projects, and enlisted the help of course instructors and guest lecturers/tour guides as mentors. Students shared their final projects in Week 7, to the delight of all in attendance.

Students final projects included :

  • A tree tour of hidden gems and trees of historic importance on the Stanford campus
  • An in-depth investigation of irrigation practices and associated costs for the trees of Stanford
  • A detailed guide to the trees  of the famous “Dish” (formally, the Stanford Academic Reserve)
