Real-time Data Fusion at Scale for Aircraft Manufacturing,

Ian Willson, Senior Technical Fellow, Data Engineering, Boeing AnalytX

Bio

Ian Willson is a Senior Technical Fellow in Data Engineering at the Boeing Company in Bellevue, Washington. Ian has a PhD from the University of Toronto in predictive analytics using fuzzy sets. He leads data analytics technology planning and technical conference tracks company-wide. He started at the IBM Software Lab, then started his own software company to apply automation to consumer travel booking and business travel analytics. For the past 19 years he has focused on innovative applications of large scale data analytics at Boeing. Ian developed an active temporal data warehouse that was granted 2 patents, contributed to the ANSI standard and Teradata's native capability. His current focus is advanced methods of real-time analytics fusing conventional and IoT data at scale using temporal, time series and geospatial methods in a hybrid eco-system.

Abstract

The broad application of analytics to aircraft manufacturing is driving Boeing's production growth and efficiency as part of our Digital Transformation. The opportunity to incorporate real-time factory location data into our large scale analytics platform (1 Exabyte/month of data processed) opens up new opportunities to efficiently leverage a combination of powerful scalable methods to generate high value analytics in near real-time.
