Weekly Problem Sets
- Problem sets will be released Thursdays by midnight (PST) through Ed, cover that week's lecture content, and are due the following Thursday at 11:59 PM (PST) on Gradescope.
- There will be 5 questions on each problem set: each question will have a difficulty level of 1-3 stars. Every week, select a combination of questions that add up to 6 stars in total. For example: you can choose to do two 1-star questions + two 2-star questions, or you can choose to do one 1-star question + one 2-star question + one 3-star question, or you can choose to do two 3-star questions.
- Each question will be graded on a coarse 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1 scale, then multiplied by the star difficulty. For each week's assignment, a perfect score is 6 points. You CANNOT get more than 6 points, and you ARE NOT allowed to select a combination of questions that add up to more than 6 points. Otherwise, we will discount your selected question(s) with the lowest star rating until your combination of questions cap at 6 stars.
- You may attempt all 5 questions, though you must indicate which questions you'd like to be counted for your homework score. We will provide feedback for the other questions but they will not contribute to your grade. If you do not indicate which questions you'd like to count for your score, then you may get no credit for the homework!
- You will have 5 late days in total to use on the written homeworks, and may use multiple late days per homework. if you use up your late days, you may turn in the assignments late with a flat 50% penalty.
- You can work on the homework in groups of up to 4 people (we strongly encourage it).
However, each student should independently write up their own solutions, and clearly list the names of their collaborators.
We consider the omission of the name of a collaborator to be a significantly larger honor code violation than the submission of homeworks that are not sufficiently disimilar.
- TAs will not handle homework-specific questions on problems other than their own. Each problem will have a list of TA names at the beginning, indicating the TAs that will be grading that problem and handling it in office hours and Ed. For timezone conflicts, please reach out to the CA through Ed or email.
- For any regrade requests, you *must* attend the office hours of the specific problem's TAs.
Weekly Quizzes
- Each Thursday (starting Jan 8th), a list of 3-5 quiz questions (that cover that week's lecture material) will be released along with the homeworks.
- The following Monday (starting Jan 12th), please enter the quiz queue on Zoom and wait for a TA to invite you to an interactive chat session for an oral quiz. See Ed for more details on when and how to join!
- During the session, the TA will pick one question from the list of questions for you to answer.
- The quiz will be 1 on 1, but you are allowed to discuss and prepare for it with your homework partners.
- For 1/19 (MLK day) and 2/16 (President's day), the quiz session will be on Tuesday instead.
- For anyone with scheduling conflicts, please reach out to us via Ed to schedule a (potentially recurring) alternate timeslot for the quiz.
