We are looking to examine word usage in speeches given by Republican and Democratic presidential nominees over time, specifically looking to highlight the words with the highest discrepancies in usage between the two parties (ie in the 1968 election, the word that the republican candidate used the most relative to the democratic candidates usage is 'safety'). Additionally we are looking to track word usages over time, and correlate word usages to other variables indicating presidential performance (approval ratings, vote count, etc) as we identify trends. The visualization we intend on creating will have multiple components as such, with a timeline display with individual nodes for each election being the initial display, but within each node we will display other visualizations on relevant data that we will find as we further analyze the speech dataset we acquire.
