Datasets
We will look at a variety of datasets in the course -- during discussions, and for our data-based assignments and projects. In many cases we welcome you coming up with datasets that are of particular interest to you, but below are pointers to a few lists of public datasets in case you're looking around, as well as datasets we'll be using in class.

- US city temperatures

- Source: Data and Story Library: US Temperatures
- Description: Average low temperature in January and latitude / longitude information of 56 US cities, along with additional information (not in original source) such as state, geographic region, and whether coastal or not.
- NFL stats

- Source: John Rasp's Datasets for Classroom Use
- Description: Data from the 1998 through 2000 seasons of the National Football League, giving year and week of the game, home and visiting teams, score, and pointspread.
- Students' goals

- Source: Data and Story Library: Students' Goals
- Description: A group of grade 4-6 students were asked two questions:
- What would you like to do at school? Allowed response choices were being good at sports, making good grades, and being popular.
- Which of the following would make you popular at school? Students were asked to respond by ordering the options of grades, money, sports, looks based on their preceived impact on popularity.
