C. philippinensis, the capillaria species of greatest concern to humans, is known to cause human intestinal capillariasis.

There are two other capillaria species that are less commonly of concern to humans:
C. hepatica, known to cause hepatic capillariasis; and
C. aerophila, known to cause pulmonary capillariasis.
