The most common name for cercarial dermatitis is Swimmer’s Itch (SI). However, it is also referred to as clam digger’s itch, diver’s itch and sedge pool itch. It was described as schistosome dermatitis by Cort in his 1928 publication, but in 1930, Vogel used the term cercarial dermatitis, which is the name still used today. In Japan, it was known as karube or konganbyo.
