Introduction

Scabies is an infestation of the skin with the microscopic mite Sarcoptes scabiei var hominis. The defining symptom of this ectoparasite is intense pruritis over the entire body. Scabies is not limited to specific geographic areas but rather is found worldwide. Luckily, the disease is entirely curable; the prospects for any individual who contracts the parasite are positive.
