How to Declare
Students wishing to study, engage, and theorize the diverse experiences of peoples of the African Diaspora and Africa should consider a major or minor in African and African American Studies. In addition to being able to participate in a close intellectual community, majors have access to unique opportunities.
The first step in becoming a AAAS major is to download this major/minor declaration worksheet. You also are invited to visit our offices in building 360 - 362B. When you come, you will be able to talk about your interests and find help with completing the declaration form.
Fill in your worksheet . You should refer to our Undergraduate Requirements and List of Courses as well as check the Stanford Bulletin for quarterly offerings. Potential majors can select this sample worksheet with AAAS Undergraduate Requirements to get started.
Make an appointment to talk about your interests with the Director or Associate Director, who will help you locate a faculty advisor.
Return the major worksheet to our offices for signatures from the Directors. After the Declaration Form is completed and signed, declare the AAAS Major over AXESS.
