Hi all, and James especially,
There is a book on film versions of Carmen, Carmen on Film: A Cultural History, which looks pretty good. Here's a review:
I'm not sure if they cover U-Carmen e-Khayelitsha since it came out in 2005, so I'm adding that title here.
I will mention this during our discussion today, but wanted to post some links for you. Doris Dorrie (umlaut on the o) is a German filmmaker who has been staging operas over the past 8 years or so. I saw her Cosi fan tutte in Berlin and it was great.
The performance is on dvd:
There is also dvd of her staging of Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera:
I ran across this on youtube... a radio version of A Foreign Affair with Lucille Ball, John Lund and Marlene Dietrich. Billy Wilder says a few words at the very end...
(in five parts)
Ok--I think I have this under control now. I will upload two documents with all the photos. Let me know if you have problems opening them. Thanks! -Jenny
