david's project (visual thinking in global modernity)

Hi David,

Here are some texts that came to mind, all from the visual culture studies field. I have the feeling you are familiar with the Mitchell article, but in any case, here we go...

Lisa Parks, “Satellite and Cyber Visualities: Analyzing‘digital earth’” (in Nicholas Mirzoeff’s Visual Culture Reader)

Denis Cosgrove, Global Visions: One World, Whole-Earth, and the Apollo Space Photographs (Annalsof the Association of American Geographers,Vol. 84, No. 2, June 1994)

W. J. T. Mitchell, “World pictures: Globalization and visualculture” (in Neohelicon, 2007)

Kirsten Ostherr, "Cinematic Prophylaxis: Globalization and Contagion in theDiscourse of World Health" (Duke U Press)--This is a great book, and though not exactly what you are doing, I think you will find her--very original--approach and her theoretical framing of globalization studies and visual culture in the intro quite interesting.

And, Foucault's "Of Other Spaces." Maybe?
