Thursday presentation Questions

My project for the seminar is on "Nationalism in Interwar Germany and China: The Role of Film in Creating National Identity." These are the questions I would like to discuss. You may also want to bring in the class fillms in the discussion.

1. Are films an effective way of communicating national identity? Particularly when there is a system of censorship?
2. Are films losing the very notion of nationhood, in favor of a generalized "global" cinematographic culture?
3. To what degree does cinema influence national character, national identity, and nationalism? Or does the film culture just reflect it?
4. How do national films particularly influence the status of women?
