At Stanford the "library friends" group has a special name

Associates of the Stanford University Libraries

We are an organization whose members share bibliophilic and informational interests and a desire to be of assistance to the Stanford University Libraries.

We encourage the exploration of books, book and information arts and technologies, the book trade, and similar interests among our members and within the Stanford University community, for the benefit and enjoyment of members and their guests.

Members of ASUL (our abbreviation) or Library Associates (as we are also known) individually and collectively provide support, in tangible and sustaining ways, to the Stanford University Libraries, especially in the enrichment of its collections.

Our mission statement:

  • To cultivate an informed interest in and support of the University Libraries' scholarly resources;

  • To foster the growth and improvement of those resources through furthering their acquisition by gifts of money and materials;

  • To offer social and educational programs, trips, and events, opportunities for creating, collecting, and preserving library materials, and to provide published materials to the membership.

    Specific information about ASUL and its activities is available by clicking on the links below.
