Use Searchworks, Stanford's catalog, to determine the location and availability of books, journal titles, field guides, maps, data files, and technical reports. Try a "keyword" search or use the following Library of Congress Subject Headings:

  • climatic changes--environmental aspects
  • earthquakes--california
  • geology, stratigraphic--permian
  • plate tectonics

Databases:

Databases will lead you to articles in journals and papers in conference proceedings and technical reports.

  • AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists)
  • Access to AAPG articles also available through GeoScienceWorld.
  • Annual Review of Earth and Planetary Sciences
  • ESPM (Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management, 1967+) content includes environmental sciences including air, land, water and noise pollution, bacteriology, ecology, toxicology, risk assessment, environmental biotechnology and engineering, waste management, water resources, policies and regulations, and U.S. federal environmental impact statements.
  • GeoRef (1693+) covers the geology of North America from 1693 to the present and the geology of the rest of the world from 1933 to the present. The database includes references to all publications of the U.S. Geological Survey. Masters' theses and doctoral dissertations from US and Canadian universities are also covered.
  • GeoScienceWorld (includes access to GeoRef and full-text journals)
  • PAIS (1972+) had articles on agriculture, forestry, energy resources, environment, and policy issues in these and other areas.
  • Scopus is an abstracting and citation database covering scientific, technical, medical and social sciences literature. It includes nearly 40 million records.
  • SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) online e-library
  • Stanford Dissertations (1989+)
  • Web of Science is a citation index from 1945 to the present. It provides forward and backward citation searching, meaning you can see who cited the article in which you have an interest and with a recent article go back in time to see its citations.
