  1. Phil Hoehn leaves Branner Library
  2. Titles to Make You Smile: Ignorance is Bliss (Part 2)
  3. SUL/AIR Job Opportunities

Phil Hoehn, after nearly 5 years as Stanford's Map Bibliographer, is leaving Branner Library. His last day will be August 25, 2000. His depth of knowledge, exceptional competency, and years of experience will be sorely missed, not to mention the Friday snacks he never failed to forget!

Phil began his career as an assistant library clerk at UC Berkeley. Over the span of his 30 year career at Berkeley, he was the Head of the Map & Atlas Division at the Bancroft Library, the Map Room, and the Earth Sciences & Map Library. He has been the Chair of the Map & Geography Round Table for the American Library Association, the President of the Western Association of Map Libraries, one of the founders of the California Map Society, and the Chair of the UC/Stanford Map Librarians Group. In addition to these duties, he found time to publish, run workshops, and speak at numerous conferences.

His new position will be the Map Librarian for the David Rumsey Collection in San Francisco. This large private collection of 18th and 19th century North and South American maps is being digitally scanned to allow for online access over the Web (www.davidrumsey.com). Currently over 3,000 images are online with a predicted 5,000 by the end of the year.

We wish Phil all the best in his future mapping endeavors.
