1. BENEFITS ENROLLMENT ON THE WEB
Stanford is changing the way new employees enroll for benefits. In the past, benefits enrollment was done on paper. Starting July 1, employees will enroll on the Web.
The new Web benefits enrollment system offers many advantages:
* Convenience - Employees can enroll any time of the day or night.
* Timeliness - Enrollment can happen sooner, avoiding defaults.
* Accessibility - Enrollment can be done at work or home with greater access to information and less reliance on department staff.
There are also the advantages of fewer delays and errors in payroll deductions, which means less work that must be redone by hiring officers and administrators. Finally, accurate and early benefits enrollment sends a welcoming message to new employees and helps them get off to a good start on their Stanford experience.
HR administrators, Human Resource Officers, Faculty Affairs Officers, and department administrators must assist in implementing this new system by altering the timing of the PAF (Personnel Action Form). The Web benefits enrollment system requires the PAF to be processed 10 days before the employee begins work.
Early processing of PAFs is key to this revised benefits handling. (It also enables new staff to get SUNet IDs as early as possible.) An administrator's checklist has been created as a reminder and admininstrators will receive them via ID Mail.
More details about this process and other benefits-related items are at Stanford's HR Web site.
