2. Improved Search for Computer Information

Beginning in the Spring Quarter, information about using your computer effectively at Stanford will be easier to find.

When you search the Stanford Web for computer information now, you often get a mixed bag of results. The ITSS Publications Web page is being revised to provide you with a more focused search. Behind the scenes, various groups within ITSS and SUL/AIR have put information about their computer documents into DocuShare, a document management system from Xerox.

Starting in early April, simply type http://computerinfo.stanford.edu into your browser. You'll be taken to the Publications Web page where you can search for computer information by keyword or by category. The results are retrieved from the DocuShare database so you are more likely to find relevant information.

3. Reminder to SUL/AIR Staff Regarding Outbound Email

When you set up any email client (Simeon, Eudora, Netscape, etc.), please use Stanford's mail-sending software to send your mail. That server's name is:

Related to that service, the following is from the ITSS Digest for 23 March 2001:

"Outbound email performance improved

With the growth in mail volume, as well as to provide for backup, the Leland Systems group has brought another SMTP server online and made the two machines load-balanced. People who have smtp.stanford.edu as outgoing mail server will now be taking advantage of this service."
