World Bank publications on dry land management and desertification - Describes World Bank programs to mitigate land degradation and desertification problems  affecting more than one billion people in 100 countries.

Disasters

Natural Disaster Reference Database - NDRD is a bibliographic database on research, programs, and results which relate to the use of satellite remote sensing for disaster mitgation. The NDRD was compiled and abstracted from articles published since 1981. Major sources for this database were the NASA RECON and ISI Current Contents databases.

Virtual Disaster Library - The Library was developed in November 1999, by PAHO/WHO (Pan American Health Organization / Regional Office of the World Health Organization). It contains over 250 publications of experiences, ideas and solutions to advance the cause of disaster reduction.

World Health Organization, ionizing radiation safety - Use of radioactive isotopes in medical facilities and industrial installation means possible hazards during production, transport, storage, use and waste disposal. WHO reports on the health consequences of the Chernobyl accident.
