Legislative and Members Archives

Legislative Archives
The Center for Legislative Archives is located in the National Archives building in Washington DC and is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. This Center is a repository and reference service for archival documents of the United States Congress beginning with the First Congress. Since the First Congress in 1789, the records of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate have documented the history of the legislative branch. These records remain the legal property of the House and Senate, but are preserved and made available by the Center for Legislative Archives.
The records from the committees of the House of Representatives are included in Record Group 233; the Senate records are in Record Group 46; the joint committees are in Record Group 128.
