Abstract: 1) The gross and microscopic morphology of the peritrophic membrane of Balanus nubilis, B. tintinnabulum, Tetraclita squamosa are described. 2) The cells of the membrane are characterized with vital staining. 3) The composition of the peritrophic membrane is described qualitatively. 4) The peritrophic membrane is shown to contain a rather broad compliment of enzymatic activity.
