Link to pdf version of guide.

Use EndNote and RefWorks To
  • import citations from online databases
  • store, manage and search a personal library of citations
  • insert citations into word processing documents and then compile a bibliography for those in-text citations in any format
How to Import Citations via Direct Export
  1. Obtain a search result database
  2. Mark desired citations:
    a. check the box to the left of the citation in the Results Page
    b. check the "Mark this record" box at the top of the Full Record or Abstract display
    c. check the "Mark All" box at the top of the Results Page to mark all citations on that page (Note: to mark all results for your search rather than a single page of results, check the "Mark All" box at the top of every Results Page for your search.)
  3. Click "Marked records" in the left navigation column
  4. Choose level of detail desired (Note: do not include bibliography)
  5. Choose EndNote or RefWorks under "Export into bibliographic software"
  6. Click Submit
  7. EndNote or RefWorks will launch and prompt you to select a library (EndNote) or login (RefWorks)
  8. Once a library (EndNote) is selected or login (RefWorks) is successful, citations will automatically import into the program
  9. If direct exporting is not working for you, then
    a. (EndNote) try downloading the Export Plug-in from ISI ResearchSoft http://thomsonisiresearchsoft.com/support/export/
    b. (RefWorks) contact info@refworks.com
    c. use the filter method (next section)
