Mattox worked on super conductive devices in the Geballe/Beasley group from 1981 until 1984. He then worked on CGRO/EGRET with Robert Hofstadter, writing a thesis on the EGRET calibration at SLAC (graduating from AP in 1987). He subsequently held post-doctoral positions at EGRET collaborating institutions, MPG/MPE, and NASA/GSFC during the flight of CGRO.
He now works on renewable energy technology and policy at Fayetteville State University, a constituent campus of the University of North Carolina system. See
