Inside Axess: Behind the Scenes of the Axess Redesign Project

Axess is used by students, facuIty, staff, administrative system users, alumni, and family members paying their student's tuition. Over 30,000 users visit Axess each day.

To create the new Axess, we partnered with a professional user experience and design firm for guidance. The core team driving the project included community members from Administrative Systems, Financial Management Services, the Registrar's Office and University Human Resources.

Feedback was gathered from over 2,500 students, faculty and staff through an online survey, an analysis of help ticket requests, and targeted focus groups to identify changes that would be meaningful to all user groups.

Changes will be implemented in phases, giving you access to the changes as soon as they're available. These phases will affect various user groups (i.e, students, faculty, and staff) in different ways, with core PeopleSoft users experiencing the highest degree of change in the initial release.

Here's What to Expect:

Phase Two

Set to make its campus debut in early May 2014, this phase improves Axess for all users. Highlights include:

  • Faster Axess portal performance

  • MyAxess for students: An interactive, mobile-responsive homepage featuring one-click access to frequently used student features (action items, calendar, financials, and academic information)

  • New calendar system

  • New web editor features for back-end portal users

Phase Two

Delivered in several staged releases throughout the year, this phase includes enhancements for teaching and advising users. Highlights include:

  • MyAxess for teaching users: An interactive, mobile-responsive homepage featuring one-click access to frequently used features (action items, calendar, and academic information)

  • New Advisor Center: A redesigned, mobile-responsive dashboard featuring one-click access to frequently used features (thesis/dissertation approval, calendar, and student academic information)
