Sequence of Events

11:45am-12:20pm: Hors d'ouevres and drinks

12:30pm-1:30pm Diploma Ceremony

1:30pm Full Buffet Lunch

Commencement speaker: Dave Flemming.  

Bio: Mr. Flemming is San Francisco Giants play-by-play announcer and is the youngest active broadcaster in the big leagues.  In 1998, he received Bachelor's degree in Classics and Master's degrees in Humanities from Stanford University.  In addition to his work with the Giants, he serves as a play-by-play voice for baseball on ESPN Radio and select Fox network telecasts.  In 2008, Sports Business Journal named Flemming "the best of the new generation of baseball announcers".

Stanford's Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, June 15th at the Stanford Stadium finishes at 11:00 A.M., at which point, graduates and their guests disburse to their departmental diploma ceremonies.  Please allow yourself time to walk from the Stadium across campus and to provide additional transportation for those in your party who may need assistance.

The Department of Classics will hold our diploma ceremony at Green Library's Bing Wing entrance, next to the picturesque, stone Centennial Fountain. Cold water and light snacks will greet you when you arrive and the ceremony will begin promptly at 12:30 P.M.  The ceremony will last approximately one hour, followed by a fully catered lunch.   The entire seating area and ceremony will be tented for your convenience.  


Graduating students are asked to submit a reservation form for themselves and their guests online by May 1st.  If you have any questions about this upcoming event, please feel free to email the Student Services Officer.
