Ph.D. candidate, Ancient History
Matthieu is a graduate student on Stanford's Ancient History track. He obtained his BA in History and MA in Ancient History from Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, after which he pursued with a Master's degree in Competitive Intelligence at the Ecole de Guerre Economique in Paris. He then worked for two years as an analyst in the Consulting branch of PricewaterhouseCoopers France.
Matthieu's interests range from the understanding of violence in Ancient Greece to the reception of Greek statemen in German historiography. However, his main focus at the moment is economic history, its links with democratic theory and more broadly the impact of political regime changes on the economy of the Ancient world.
In his free time, Matthieu enjoys biking, backpacking and Vassily Kandinsky.
