Paulus Unter den Juden [Paul Tillich Among the Jews]
Paul Tillich, a great Protestant philosopher/theologian of the 20th century, born in Germany, came to America in 1933 after Hitler declared him an enemy of the state. At the time he was a member of the Frankfurt University Philosopy Department where his Jewish colleagues gave him the title "Paulus Unter den Juden","Paul Among the Jews" signifying his position as the only Christian/non Jew on that faculty. His lifelong association and friendship with Jewish scholars, psychiatrists, theologians, philosophers, artists, and merchants continued in the United States and after the Second World War became the subject of a series of lectures titled, "The Jewish Question: A Christian and a German Problem."
