The Orientation program provides an overview of the Fulbright goals and traditions and aims to instill a Fulbright identity among FLTAs. It introduces FLTAs to the role of all agencies and institutions involved and the resources they provide. FLTAs are introduced to information and insights necessary for them to ease their transition into the US academic culture and adjust to different educational norms and practices. Since many of you will be arriving early in the day, we thought you might be interested in a little game that will get you out into the Stanford campus, exploring, getting to know one another and having some fun together! It is in this sprit that we organize a Sunday afternoon scavenger hunt to be completed in teams. We will have prizes for the winning teams. Time and starting location to be determined.
12:45 p.m. After your morning sessions you will quickly pick up a boxed lunch at BOB (your house) and get on a tour bus to take a fun-filled trip to San Francisco! We will visit various points of interest and historical districts in San Francisco, ending with an hour of free-time for you to explore in the area of Fisherman's Wharf. The bus will pick everyone up at the House at exactly 12:45 p.m., so please be punctual. Bring a sweater or jacket, as San Francisco can be unpredictably cold/windy/foggy this time of year. It could also be warm, so it's best to wear layers that you can put on or remove as needed. Dinner will be served at the house in the evening after the tour.
6:30 p.m. Details to be announced (TBA)...
6:00 p.m. - This is our opportunity to celebrate with you and wish you the best of luck as you begin an exciting and rewarding academic year of teaching in the United States. We invite you to join us for a garden party in your honor at the home of Dr. Elizabeth Bernhardt. Following appetizers, drinks and plenty of photo opportunities, we will all walk over to Paul Brest Hall (Munger Graduate Residence) for dinner and more celebration. All FLTAs, guest speakers and orientation staff are invited.
In addition to the special activities that we have planned for you as part of the Orientation Program, we thought you might be interested to know about some of the other events going on at Stanford while you are here.
