NEXT STOP: ATLANTA GOLD
Stanford Coaches Prepare for Olympics

By Diane Manuel

AS SKIP KENNEY SETS HIS SIGHTS on this summer’s Olympics, he’s looking for more than record-breaking times from athletes. “What our country needs right now are role models, and our swimmers have a chance to provide that,” says the Olympic men’s swimming head coach.

With both of Stanford’s head swimming coaches Kenney and Richard Quick tapped to head the men’s and women’s Olympic teams, swimming will take the lead at the Atlanta games. But it won’t be the only opportunity for Stanford coaches to shine. Tara VanDerveer will coach the women’s basketball team and Sherry Posthumus will serve as team leader for the combined men’s and women’s fencing teams.
