Help Us Meet Our Goal - Substainable R&DE, Food & Living Programs

R&DE Student Housing is responding to California's water emergency, and we need everyone's assistance.

  • We are reducing our landscape irrigation, have turned off our decorative water fountains, and are challenging all of our residents to help us reduce our water usage by 15 million gallons
  • Retrofits in student housing have cut water use by about 120 million gallons annually since 2001— a 37 percent reduction, but we all need to contribute to the conservation effort today.

We challenge EVERYONE to:

  • Reduce Your Shower Time – Take 2 minutes off your normal shower time, or even better, aim to take a 5 minute shower or less!
  • Wash Full Loads of Laundry – In November this year alone students used 1 million gallons of water doing laundry.
  • Turn off the Tap and Use the Trickle - Turn off the faucet while you shave or brush your teeth, or while scrubbing dishes and you can save up to 5 gallons a day.
  • Report Water Leaks (inside and outside)– Report dripping faucets, shower heads, and sprinklers to fixit.stanford.edu.
  • Scrape Your Plate and Avoid Trays - When eating in dining halls, don't use a tray and scrape the food off your plate completely to reduce water used for cleaning.

Other Resources and Opportunities
