Ten of Stanford’s Fraternities and Sororities have on campus houses. The Greek organizations with on campus houses are:
Kappa Sigma (returning Autumn 2012)
Phi Kappa Psi
Sigma Alpha Epsilon
Theta Delta Chi
Delta Delta Delta
Kappa Alpha Theta
Pi Beta Phi
Students who live in Greek houses, like all students who live on campus, must agree to and abide by the terms of the Residence Agreement. Prior to the annual Draw, each Greek organization’s leadership is responsible for providing Housing Assignments with an accurate roster of members who will be living in the house during the upcoming academic year. Stanford Student Housing requires that Greek organizations fill all available vacancies in their houses during Autumn and Winter quarters.
Greek Students and Tier Usage
When guaranteed undergraduate students apply for housing during the Draw, they must select a Tier level. Each Tier level equals a range of application numbers and students are randomly assigned one application number from that range. Application numbers determine the order in which assignments are made during the Draw. Students with lower numbers are assigned before students with higher numbers.
During an undergraduate student’s career, he/ she is allowed to use three tiers. Tier 1 contains the best Draw numbers, 1 – 1000 and can only be used once during a student’s career. Tier 1 cannot be used as a rising sophomore. Tier 2 contains the numbers 1001 – 2000. Tier 3 contains the numbers 2001 – 3000. Tier 3 must be used at least once during a student’s career.
When Greek students enter houses as Sophomores, Housing Assignments removes Tier 1 and Tier 2 from those students’ profiles. Typically, Greek students live in their house during their Sophomore year and this is considered their Tier 2 year. Juniors typically live elsewhere on campus and participate in the main Draw using Tier 3. Seniors return to their houses and use Tier 1. In the event a Senior is unable to live in his/ her house because there are not enough vacancies, the student can file a petition through Axess to have his/ her Tier 1 returned in time to use in the general Draw if they have used their Tier 2 and 3 already. Please note that these petitions must be filed well in advance of the annual Draw deadline.
If the event a student de-pledges a fraternity or sorority, he or she should also file a petition through Axess to have the appropriate Tier levels returned to his or her profile.
