Stanford University: Alternative Spring Break
Alternative Spring Break: The Week that Lasts a Lifetime...
The Alternative Spring Break (ASB) Program exposes students to complex social and cultural issues through community visits, experiential learning, direct service, group discussion, readings, and reflection activities. Our vision is to transform students into advocates of social change on issues affecting our communities.
Over the past week more than 200 Stanford students went beyond the Stanford bubble to dive deep into social and cultural issues that they have been learning for the last 10 weeks. Click here for some photos of participants engaging in service, or follow us on social media with #StanfordASB.
Kudos to everyone for choosing to engage in these issues over their breaks!
Thank you to all who expressed interest in ASB for this year. We received an overwhelming number of applications. It is so exciting to see that a large number of students are interested in service-learning.
Applicants will hear back about their application status the week of November 17. In the meantime if you have any questions please direct them to email@example.com.
Best of luck to all who applied! Please be on the lookout for opportunities to lead a ThanksGiving Back and/or Alternative Spring Break trip during Spring 2015.
Alternative Spring Break applications are due November 3, 11:59PM.
This year, we are offering 17 different courses and trips. 4 are travel trips - 2 going to Washington, D.C., 1 going to Detroit, and 1 going to South Dakota - and 13 trips are traveling within California (from the Bay Area to the Central Valley to Los Angeles).
All Stanford students are encouraged to apply! Each applicant can apply to up to 3 different courses & trips.
If you have any questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Please also refer to our FAQ page before e-mailing us.
All Interested Stanford Students Are Encouraged to Apply for TGB!
Kick off the academic year by engaging with fellow students, social issues, and the communities right in Stanford's backyard. What better way to give thanks than to give back? Take advantage of this opportunity to work with inspiring community leaders, alumni, and friends to make a positive difference.
Thanksgiving Back (TGB) is a program sponsored by Stanford Alternative Spring Break. Based on the much-loved ASB service-learning model, TGB gives students an opportunity to participate in public service and experiential learning over Thanksgiving Break.
This year, we will have 3 trips:
- EdTech: How Silicon Valley is Shaping the Future of Education
- Urban Food Solutions: Strategies for Sustainble Food
- Medicine in Science and Society
You can apply for up to 3 trips! Applications are due by Wednesday, October 15th, 11:59 pm. Due to high traffic website at that time, it is strongly recommended that you submit your application sooner rather than later.
