Micah Hendler, an International Relations and Music Double Major at Yale University, is hoping to start an Israeli-Palestinian youth choir in Jerusalem. This choir will contain musical and political dialogue, enabling its members to form close friendships with–as well as a deeper understanding of–the singers from the “other side” of their conflict. This interaction should empower the singers, both individually, and collectively, to be forces for peace within their communities.

His choir project has grown out of a passion for both music and conflict resolution inspired by his involvement with Seeds of Peace, a summer camp for teenagers from conflict regions, since 2004.

Micah Hendler is a senior majoring in music and international studies at Yale University. His choir project has grown out of a passion for both music and conflict resolution inspired by his involvement with Seeds of Peace, a summer camp for teenagers from conflict regions, since 2004. He can’t wait to meet you!

Micah Hendler is hoping to start an Israeli-Palestinian youth choir in Jerusalem. This choir will contain musical and political dialogue, enabling its members to form close friendships with–as well as a deeper understanding of–the singers from the “other side” of their conflict. This interaction should empower the singers, both individually, and collectively, to be forces for peace within their communities. As a performing ensemble, its presence and performances will also hopefully inspire others in the region to work for peace.

Micah hopes to integrate his project with networks in Jerusalem, thereby incentivizing members of those communities to participate and enabling the project to gain credibility within the Israeli and Palestinian communities in Jerusalem. Micah plans to tap into both conventional and online social media to amplify the voices of the singers involved and use connections with high-profile individuals to hopefully have a greater impact on the discourse within Israeli and Palestinian societies.
