The John Etchemendy Cardinal Walk

The John Etchemendy Cardinal Walk

You are invited to join both our new and outgoing provosts, Persis Drell and John Etchemendy, respectively, for the John Etchemendy Cardinal Walk:

Thursday, May 4, 2017
Starting at the Stanford Stadium
11:30 a.m. – Warm-ups and fun
12:00 p.m. – Walk begins
1:00 p.m. – Walk estimated to conclude near Maples Pavilion

This will be the 11th year that faculty, staff and students take a break in their workday to celebrate the strong culture of wellness at Stanford by coming together for a one-mile journey around our scenic campus. Last year, 1,900 of us came out to celebrate wellness and enjoy the event. All attendees receive an event T-shirt.

We have renamed the walk in honor of John Etchemendy, our outgoing (and longest-serving) provost at Stanford, because he has been a major supporter of BeWell, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary as Stanford’s innovative faculty and staff wellness initiative.

Our event theme this year is “Moonwalk to Wellness” — as, coincidentally, May 4 is also International Star Wars Day. So what better way to start our warm-up exercises than with a moonwalk competition on the event stage from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Sign up to participate in the competition and you could win a $50 Amazon gift card. Need a little help practicing your moonwalk?: see this tutorial video.

The walk will take place from noon to 1:00 p.m., starting at Stanford Stadium and ending near Maples Pavilion. Snacks (fruit and granola bars) will be served at the finish line.

If you are on-campus, take the Marguerite shuttle, or “warm up” by walking to the event. If you are off-campus, take advantage of the free parking available in the dirt parking lot next to Stanford Stadium.

This event, brought to you by BeWell and Cardinal at Work, is a free, family-friendly event with no required registration.
