Peter DeComo

Peter DeComoPete DeComo, a Pittsburgh region native, founded Renal Solutions, Inc. (RSI) in August of 2000. RSI developed a revolutionary dialysis technology system for patients suffering from kidney failure. The Allient® System is an innovative dialysis technology, combined with sorbent chemistry technology which is specifically designed for use in the home, for nighttime hemodialysis, as well as, the acute and sub-acute environments. As Founder, Chairman and CEO of RSI, Mr. DeComo was the key driver in raising $40 million in private equity financing, completing the development process of the Company’s Allient® System, obtaining FDA and CE Mark regulatory approvals and initiating commercialization in both the domestic and international markets. On November 26, 2007, after 12 months of positive discussion during which he acted as the lead negotiator, RSI was acquired by Medical Care Holdings (FMCHI). Total consideration paid by FMCHI was $200 MM, which was significant considering that RSI was pre-revenue and just entering the commercialization stage.

Before founding RSI, he was the Chief Operating Officer of HemoTherapies Inc., a start-up company in San Diego, commercializing the only FDA cleared Liver Dialysis System. He was previously Senior Vice President of the Specialty Pharmacy Division for Olsten Health Services, now Accredo, a $600 million specialty pharmacy provider. Prior to joining Olsten, Mr. DeComo held numerous senior level positions in the health care industry, launching and commercializing specialized products and services to patients in the home setting.

Mr. DeComo has a passion for advancing the development of Life Science companies in the Pittsburgh region. In order to accomplish this goal he currently devotes a majority of his time and effort to numerous entrepreneurial and community based activities;

  • Director, ClearCount Medical Solutions, Inc.
  • Director, Pittsburgh LifeSciences Greenhouse
  • Director, Pittsburgh Technology Council
  • Director, National Kidney Foundation of the Alleghenies
  • Member, Congressman Jason Altmire’s Health Advisory Committee

Mr. DeComo is recognized for his contributions to the Life Sciences community and has been the recipient of the following awards;
