Estimation of acceleration demands and capacities of nonstructural components in buildings

This presentation will provide an overview of issues and challenges associated with the quantification of demands and capacities of acceleration-sensitive nonstructural components in buildings. Topics to be covered include ground motion selection; shake-table testing criteria; structural and nonstructural modeling concepts; as well as issues associated with the development of performance criteria for acceleration-sensitive nonstructural components. A brief discussion will ensue on needs and challenges related to the translation of research results into practice.
