In critically ill patients, echocardiography provides useful and reliable informations, in a non-invasive and timely manner.

This website which provides the basic knowledge to perform and interpret point-of-care trans-thoracic echocardiography. It is designed to help intensivists and emergency physicians to understand and use basic transthoracic echocardiography, but it can not replace formal training and experience. Remember that experience is key in echo, and that a reference echo should always be asked for confirmation of abnormal findings.

This website has been created and developed by Anne-Sophie Beraud, cardiologist specialized in echocardiography, clinical instructor in the divisions of Cardiovascular Medicine and Critical Care Medicine at Stanford School of Medicine.

The creation and development of the website has been made possible thanks to Brian Tobin, Classroom and Curriculum Technology Manager at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Thank you to all the sonographers from Stanford Hospital Adult Echocardiography Laboratory, for the acquisition of the beautiful images presented on this website.
