How do I book SCD for my event?

Aside from dance showcases, SCD also performs at special banquets, graduation dinners, Lunar New Year festivals, and shows held anywhere from dorms and dining halls to places like Great America and San Francisco. To book us for your event, email us at stanfordchinesedancers(at)gmail(dot)com. Please include details on the event date, performance time, and requested duration of performance. We look forward to working with you!

What are the requirements for joining SCD?

We only require that you are a Stanford undergraduate student interested in learning the art of Chinese dance.

No previous experience with Chinese dance is required - we accept all undergraduates willing to learn! In fact, many of our current members joined without having had previous dance experience, and we require no try-outs. We also happily welcome and encourage students of all backgrounds and ethnicities to join us.

What is the time commitment for joining?

We have one 2-hour long practice each week with the exception of Dead Week, Finals Week, holidays and breaks. We also have several performances each quarter. We gladly work with members' schedule conflicts, so don't worry if you cannot make each performance!

Does SCD's repertoire include lion or dragon dancing?

Unfortunately, we do not include either lion or dragon dancing in our repertoire. We mainly focus on classical and contemporary Chinese dances. However, if you are interested in lion dance on campus, please contact the Stanford Lion Dance group.
