Accurate turbulence modeling has been the key feature of CITS. In addition models for characterizing combustion, heat release and the pollutant production in the engine combustion chamber have been developed and validated; work on soot modeling is now underway.
Multiphase flow capabilities have also been substantially enhanced by introducing a new paradigm, the Resolved Level Set Grid (RLSG) method, which directly uses the CHIMPS integration software to couple the liquid/gas interface tracking algorithm (based on a Cartesian mesh solver) and CDP.
LES unstructured grid and RLSG AMR grid for interface tracking
RLSG is solved in a separate code based on Cartesian multiblock AMR grids and a very efficient fast-marching method. Need to exchange velocity and volume fraction & surface tension on narrow band once per LES time step. All communication handled by CHIMPS.
