Investigate - Stretched attend

Overview and Meaning

Stretched attend is an investigatory posture that is typically seen when the mouse is investigating a potentially dangerous stimulus or environment. The posture serves to maintain the body in a safe location, and to allow rapid retreat, while extending the head to investigate.

Description

Investigation, where the mouse braces and pushes forward with its hind legs, stretches it body forward with the belly pressed against the ground, and raises its head up and forwards, to direct its eyes, ears and vibrissae towards stimuli in the environment.
