<h3>Abstract:</h3> <p>Summary: "In this inspiring, humorous, and practical book he shows what you can do to help children of all ages develop into confident, thoughtful and independent learners. Based around the acronym ASK, this book explores attitudes, skills and knowledge to learning - what is required and how to develop these skills more effectively. It shows how to encourage independent thinking and a spirit of inquiry in your children. Highlights include: - The dangers of calling our children clever, bright and gifted; - The best ways to teach wisdom; - How to help children excel in exams; - Why curiosity did not kill the cat. With a foreword written by John Hattie, Encouraging Learning draws on research from some of the most respected experts on thinking and learning to identify the best ways to help children learn more effectively, efficiently and co-operatively. For everyone living or working with children - particularly teachers, parents, carers and youth workers - this book shows you some of the best ways to enhance children's learning, including how to question, praise, and encourage more effectively"-- Provided by publisher.</p> <h3>Publication Language: </h3><p>eng</p> <ul class="biblio-export-buttons"><li>Export As:</li><li> <a It also equips teachers to teach in a more creative and inspiring manner improving children's engagement and attainment. The method aims to excite children's curiosity and to capture their imaginations, igniting a passion for self-motivated learning. Divided into two parts, the first section consists of overview chapters written by lecturers in Education who describe The Leonardo Effect's unique method of integrating art and science in detail, and the outcomes achievable. Part two comprises a series of illustrated case studies contributed by teachers and head teachers who have embedded The Leonardo Effect in their schools, found it has transformed their curriculum, and has been positively evaluated by inspectors. These case studies deal with: - literacy; - creativity; - disaffected learners; - learners with special needs; - school leadership; and - assessment. This book is based on the experiences of researchers, teachers and school leaders who tested The Leonardo Effect in primary schools throughout the British Isles. It has been shown to transform children's learning and raise attainment. Feedback from the schools demonstrates how it enhances teaching and learning. The Leonardo Effect is ideal for students and practising teachers, curriculum developers and academics working in the field of education"-- Provided by publisher.</p> <h3>Publication Language: </h3><p>eng</p> <ul class="biblio-export-buttons"><li>Export As:</li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/tagged/" title="Click to download the EndNote Tagged formatted file">Tagged</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/xml/" title="Click to download the XML formatted file">XML</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/bibtex/" title="Click to download the BibTEX formatted file">BibTex</a></li><li> <a href="http://scholar.google.com/scholar?btnG=Search%2BScholar&amp;as_q=%22%22&amp;as_sauthors=&amp;as_occt=any&amp;as_epq=&amp;as_oq=&amp;as_eq=&amp;as_publication=&amp;as_ylo=&amp;as_yhi=&amp;as_sdtAAP=1&amp;as_sdtp=1" title="Click to search Google Scholar for this entry">Google Scholar</a></li></ul> Curriculum Studies European Education Motivation Elementary Thu, 30 May 2013 23:06:20 +0000 kkerns 27869 at https://web.stanford.edu/group/cubberley U-turn teaching : strategies to accelerate learning and transform middle school achievement https://web.stanford.edu/group/cubberley/content/u-turn-teaching-strategies-accelerate-learning-and-transform-middle-school-achievement <div class="field field-type-text field-field-biblio-featured-queue"> <h3 class="field-label">Featured Queue:&nbsp;</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't Queue </div> </div> </div> <span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&amp;rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Abook&amp;rft.title=U-turn+teaching+%3A+strategies+to+accelerate+learning+and+transform+middle+school+achievement&amp;rft.isbn=9781412996464+%28pbk.%29&amp;rft.date=9999&amp;rft.aulast=Allen&amp;rft.aufirst=Richard"></span><div class="biblio_type"><h3>Publication Type:</h3> Book</div> <div class="biblio_authors"><h3>Authors:</h3> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/author/22529">Allen,Richard</a>; <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/author/27609">Currie,Jenn, author</a></div> <div class="biblio_source"><h3>Source: </h3> (Submitted)</div> <h3>Call Number:</h3> <a href="/group/cubberley/stacks/lc%3Fsize%3Dscreen">Cubb LB1623 .A55 2012</a> <h3>URL:</h3><a href="http://searchworks.stanford.edu/view/9944463">http://searchworks.stanford.edu/view/9944463</a> <h3>Keywords:</h3> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/keyword/1235">Effective teaching</a>, <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/keyword/429">Middle school education</a>, <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/keyword/457">Middle school teaching</a>, <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/keyword/2427">Motivation in education</a> <h3>Abstract:</h3> <p>Contents: Why a turning point is needed -- Build and maintain trust -- Create a collaborative community -- Take a teaming approach -- Prime the positive environment -- U-turn teaching in action.</p> <h3>Publication Language: </h3><p>eng</p> <ul class="biblio-export-buttons"><li>Export As:</li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/tagged/" title="Click to download the EndNote Tagged formatted file">Tagged</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/xml/" title="Click to download the XML formatted file">XML</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/bibtex/" title="Click to download the BibTEX formatted file">BibTex</a></li><li> <a href="http://scholar.google.com/scholar?btnG=Search%2BScholar&amp;as_q=%22%22&amp;as_sauthors=&amp;as_occt=any&amp;as_epq=&amp;as_oq=&amp;as_eq=&amp;as_publication=&amp;as_ylo=&amp;as_yhi=&amp;as_sdtAAP=1&amp;as_sdtp=1" title="Click to search Google Scholar for this entry">Google Scholar</a></li></ul> Motivation Teaching and Teacher Education General (STEP) Middle School Fri, 19 Apr 2013 21:51:46 +0000 kkerns 27227 at https://web.stanford.edu/group/cubberley Teaching and learning from within : a core reflection approach to quality and inspiration in education https://web.stanford.edu/group/cubberley/content/teaching-and-learning-within-core-reflection-approach-quality-and-inspiration-education <div class="field field-type-text field-field-biblio-featured-queue"> <h3 class="field-label">Featured Queue:&nbsp;</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't Queue </div> </div> </div> <span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&amp;rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Abook&amp;rft.title=Teaching+and+learning+from+within+%3A+a+core+reflection+approach+to+quality+and+inspiration+in+education&amp;rft.isbn=9780415522472+%28hardback%29&amp;rft.date=2013&amp;rft.aulast=Korthagen&amp;rft.auinit=F+A+J"></span><div class="biblio_type"><h3>Publication Type:</h3> Book</div> <div class="biblio_authors"><h3>Authors:</h3> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/author/27541">Korthagen,F. This approach supports the essential role of authenticity in the development of the whole person. It has been used in contexts around the world and has shown great promise in helping to re-chart the course for education and to re-think its purpose in global and democratic societies. The book looks at the current educational context and the need for core reflection; introduces the theory and its linkages to previous studies in numerous disciplines; presents various applications in multinational research and practice with teachers, with students and schools, and with teacher educators; and highlights ongoing work in around the world along with future plans, opportunities, and resources for professional development and research."-- Provided by publisher.</p> <h3>Publication Language: </h3><p>eng</p> <ul class="biblio-export-buttons"><li>Export As:</li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/tagged/" title="Click to download the EndNote Tagged formatted file">Tagged</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/xml/" title="Click to download the XML formatted file">XML</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/bibtex/" title="Click to download the BibTEX formatted file">BibTex</a></li><li> <a href="http://scholar.google.com/scholar?btnG=Search%2BScholar&amp;as_q=%22%22&amp;as_sauthors=&amp;as_occt=any&amp;as_epq=&amp;as_oq=&amp;as_eq=&amp;as_publication=&amp;as_ylo=&amp;as_yhi=&amp;as_sdtAAP=1&amp;as_sdtp=1" title="Click to search Google Scholar for this entry">Google Scholar</a></li></ul> Motivation Teaching and Teacher Education Fri, 12 Apr 2013 21:24:19 +0000 kkerns 27123 at https://web.stanford.edu/group/cubberley Maximizing motivation for literacy learning : grades K-6 https://web.stanford.edu/group/cubberley/content/maximizing-motivation-literacy-learning-grades-k-6 <div class="field field-type-text field-field-biblio-featured-queue"> <h3 class="field-label">Featured Queue:&nbsp;</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't Queue </div> </div> </div> <span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&amp;rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Abook&amp;rft.title=Maximizing+motivation+for+literacy+learning+%3A+grades+K-6&amp;rft.btitle=Teaching+practices+that+work&amp;rft.isbn=9781462507511+%28pbk.%29&amp;rft.date=2013&amp;rft.tpages=184&amp;rft.aulast=Marinak&amp;rft.aufirst=Barbara&amp;rft.pub=Guilford+Press&amp;rft.place=New+York"></span><div class="biblio_type"><h3>Publication Type:</h3> Book</div> <div class="biblio_authors"><h3>Authors:</h3> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/author/13071">Marinak,Barbara A.</a>; <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/author/7549">Gambrell,Linda B.</a>; <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/author/27465">Mazzoni,Susan A.</a></div> <div class="biblio_source"><h3>Source: </h3> Teaching practices that work, Guilford Press, New York, p.184 (2013)</div> <h3>Call Number:</h3> <a href="/group/cubberley/stacks/lc%3Fsize%3Dscreen">Cubb LB1576 .M3777 2013</a> <h3>URL:</h3><a href="http://searchworks.stanford.edu/view/9931825">http://searchworks.stanford.edu/view/9931825</a> <h3>Keywords:</h3> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/keyword/995">Language arts (Elementary)</a>, <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/keyword/2481">Literacy--United States</a>, <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/keyword/2427">Motivation in education</a>, <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/keyword/11679">Reading comprehension--United States</a> <h3>Abstract:</h3> <p>Summary: "Simply put, this book is designed to maximize motivation so that students develop the reading habit. Both parties agree that it is very important. Feedback in Higher and Professional Education explores what needs to be done to make feedback more effective. It examines the problem of feedback and suggests that there is a lack of clarity and shared meaning about what it is and what constitutes doing it well. It argues that new ways of thinking about feedback are needed. There has been considerable development in research on feedback in recent years, but surprisingly little awareness of what needs to be done to improve it and good ideas are not translated into action. The book provides a multi-disciplinary and international account of the role of feedback in higher and professional education. It challenges three conventional assumptions about feedback in learning: - That feedback constitutes one-way flow of information from a knowledgeable person to a less knowledgeable person. - That the job of feedback is complete with the imparting of performance-related information. - That a generic model of best-practice feedback can be applied to all learners and all learning situations"-- Provided by publisher.</p> <h3>Publication Language: </h3><p>eng</p> <ul class="biblio-export-buttons"><li>Export As:</li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/tagged/" title="Click to download the EndNote Tagged formatted file">Tagged</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/xml/" title="Click to download the XML formatted file">XML</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/bibtex/" title="Click to download the BibTEX formatted file">BibTex</a></li><li> <a href="http://scholar.google.com/scholar?btnG=Search%2BScholar&amp;as_q=%22%22&amp;as_sauthors=&amp;as_occt=any&amp;as_epq=&amp;as_oq=&amp;as_eq=&amp;as_publication=&amp;as_ylo=&amp;as_yhi=&amp;as_sdtAAP=1&amp;as_sdtp=1" title="Click to search Google Scholar for this entry">Google Scholar</a></li></ul> Higher Education Motivation Mon, 08 Apr 2013 16:23:06 +0000 kkerns 27025 at https://web.stanford.edu/group/cubberley
