Our Spring 2012 issue features an article by Professor Emeritus Perry McCarty describing his current research at Inha University, Inchon, South Korea. His work studying anaerobic fluidized membrane bioreactors with his former student Dr. Jaeho Bae, now a professor at Inha University, focuses on reducing the amount of energy used to treat wastewater, and capturing the energy within the wastewater itself.

Professor Dick Luthy, EES, Director of the NSF engineering Research Center at Stanford, recently traveled to Washington, DC, to give a briefing entitled "Road to the New Energy Economy: Re-Engineering water for power".The event was sponsored by the NSF, IEEE, the Society for Mechanical Engineers, and Discover Magazine and is the latest in a series focused on the science and technology required to achieve the nation's energy goals.

Stanford is now participating in its first Solar Decathlon,
a biennial competition sponsored by the Dept. of Energy
and an enthusiastic group of undergraduate and graduate
students and faculty is working towards the October 2013
competition to be held in Orange County, CA.
