Events

  • National Coming Out Day – Monday October 12
  • Washington DC—8 people are going from Stanford

  • Community organizing training—Camp Wellstone (November 7th  (12-6) and 8th (12-4))
    • Email Laura if you want to help out or attend
    • You can attend only Saturday or both days (Sunday is more advanced training)

    • Thursday October 6 at 2:30—going to San Jose to get trained in phone banking (this will last about 2.5 hours)
    • You can help out even if you can’t attend training – just let Ben know how much time you can commit
  • Trans awareness week
    • November 20th is national Transgender Remembrance Day–solemn event
    • We can do an awareness week separately or do something for the official national event
    • Candlelight vigil on Transgender Remembrance Day
  • Queer Homeless Youth
    • People who are going to DC will be learning a lot about queer homeless youth
    • When they get back, we will discuss how we can help
  • Disorientation Guide
    • Series of stories written by Stanford students

    • 300-500 words written within the next week (by around October 13th)
    • Jenna will email out a PDF of the old guide
  • October 30th—JSA is inviting Scott Freed to speak
    • He will be speaking about his life coming out and his experience with HIV
    • JSA is looking for co-sponsorship – Total cost is $1000
    • Our presence there would be very valuable because it is a discussion type event
    • Friday 8:30 Hillel Center
    • Emma Goldman and JQ will apply for money together from ASSU
  • SPEAK
    • Jihad for Love – about being queer and Muslim
    • Also looking for co-sponsor – but no money involved, we just need to attend
    • Will be screened on a Thursday in the next few weeks
  • Amanda Gelender is doing a play about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and student activism
    • It is relevant because it involves direct action and marginalized people
    • We can have a table outside and get a bio during the play
