MAP/Ming
Endowment Gift
Three alumni created The MAP/Ming Visiting Professorship on
Energy and the Environment in recognition of the profound relationship
between energy and environment, and between professor and students. Jane
Woodward, MS '83 (Earth Sciences), MBA '87, is CEO of the investment
firm Mineral Acquisition Partners (MAP). Mike Ming, BS '80
(Petroleum Eng), MS '87 (Eng), is a managing member of K. Stewart Energy
Group and his wife Diane Ming, BS '81 (Chem Eng), is a program manager
at TRW.
They all credit Professor A.J. Horn from the School
of Earth Sciences and Professor Gil Masters in the School of Engineering
with inspiring their studies and their careers in energy.
Thanks in part to the new professorship, "energy
and the environment will become even more firmly established at Stanford," says
Professor Jeff Koseff, senior associate dean in the School of Engineering
who oversees the development of new academic initiatives. "What
Jane, Mike and Diane did was invaluable in helping us cement an
initiative that is now one of the university's top priorities in
interdisciplinary programs."
