How To: Create a Modeled Paycheck

Who does this?  Stanford Employees

When?  Employees have a need to estimate net pay based upon anticipated changes in earnings, deductions, and/or tax withholding status.

How?  Using values from your last paycheck, the Paycheck Modeler guides employees through a series of steps to quickly investigate what-if scenarios around paycheck-related changes. The Paycheck Modeler is available from the Stanford Axess web site.

 

Create a Modeled Paycheck (6 steps)

step 1

Launch Stanford's Axess web site:

  1. https://axess.stanford.edu/.
  2. Click Login.
  3. Enter your SUNet ID and password as prompted.

Open the Paycheck Modeler:

  1. Select the Employee Center tab.
  2. Click Create Modeled Paycheck.
  3. Review the Usage Terms and Conditions.
  4. Check the box to agree to the Terms and Conditions.
  5. Click Let's Get Started or Exit.
    Note:  The Paycheck Modeler is not available for a short period of time each pay period while paychecks are being generated. A pop-up message will alert you if the Paycheck Modeler is unavailable.

Verify / Enter Earnings:

  1. Review the earnings that have defaulted for you.
    Note:  Your earnings from the most recently closed pay period will automatically populate.
  2. Modify earnings as needed to create your modeled paycheck:
    • Click the Edit icon to adjust pre-populated earnings amounts.
    • Click the Clear Amount icon to remove pre-populated earnings amounts.
    • Click Add Earnings to add new earnings types, such as overtime earnings or bonus.
      • Click the Lookup icon next to the Earnings Type field to see a list of possible earnings types.
      • Select the appropriate Earnings Type.
      • Enter an Amount or Hours.
      • Click OK.
  3. Click Next when finished with entering earnings.

Verify / Enter Deductions:

  1. Review the deductions that have defaulted for you.
    Note:  Your deductions from the most recently closed pay period will automatically populate.
  2. Modify deductions as needed to create your modeled paycheck:
    • Click the Edit icon to adjust pre-populated deduction amounts.
      Note:  Deductions, such as SCRP, that are based upon an elected percentage of your eligible earnings will adjust accordingly to changes in earnings when the modeled paycheck is created.
    • Click the Clear Amount icon to remove pre-populated deduction amounts.
    • Click Add Deductions to add new deduction types, such as medical or parking.
      • Click the Lookup icon next to the Deduction field to see a list of possible deduction types.
      • Select the appropriate Deduction.
      • Enter an Amount or Percentage.
      • Click OK.
  3. Click Next when finished with entering deductions.

Verify / Enter Tax Withholding Information:

  1. Click the Edit icon to review the Federal and State withholding status and allowances currently on file for you.
  2. Modify the withholding status and/or allowances as needed to create your modeled paycheck.
  3. Click Next when finished with adjusting tax withholding information.

Review Modeled Paycheck:

  1. Click Calculate My Modeled Check.
  2. Click Details to review Earnings, Taxes and/or Deductions.
  3. Click Print My Modeled Check for a PDF view.
  4. Click Print My Changes for a summary of the changes that you entered.
  5. Click Previous to update Earnings, Deductions and/or Withholding Information to create a new modeled paycheck.
  6. Select Related Actions to navigate to other self-services functions if you wish to make formal adjustments to your withholding allowances and/or other elections on file with Stanford.
  7. Click Exit when finished. Modeled Paycheck results will not be retained in Axess.
