Despite important advances in local, national and international commitments to biodiversity conservation and ecosystem maintenance, economic, social and policy drivers continue to degrade ecosystems and decrease biodiversity. Our goal is to identify and develop interdisciplinary approaches, rooted in the natural and social sciences that will help us understand, maintain and manage biodiversity, ecosystem function and resilience in resource use systems.

In this context, we use traditional, interdisciplinary and complex systems approaches to understand interactions, feedbacks and uncertainty in coupled human natural systems, and establish projects and research collaborations centered on six-core research and applied ecological-social programs:
