The Spatial & GIS Special Interest Group @ Stanford was formed around a common interest in working with spatial data and/or GIS, particularly in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Our mission is to facilitate multidisciplinary networking among faculty, students, and academic staff who apply GIS, spatial technologies and analytical approaches. We aim to collaboratively improve the know-how, identify specific areas where interests intersect, and enable the sharing of data, tools and methodological approaches. By organizing this group we hope to make a contribution towards improving opportunities for teaching and research with GIS at Stanford. GISSIG is an initiative that comes out of the Stanford ATS program and is funded through the Stanford Humanities Center and the Institute for Research in the Social Sciences.
GISSIG organizes informal lunchtime gatherings to network and showcase ongoing projects, and offers workshops as well as a series of invited lectures during the academic year.
