Fun events, a good working environment, some periodic, low-key bonding activities, and food help keep people interested in the group. We have handed out flyers at GOALIE, at housing check-in, and at alcohol distribution points at parties. Sign-up sheets are crucial at GOALIE and valuable at parties when alcohol distribution is less hectic. Here is text of a flyer circulated in September 1999. -------

Would you like to see more parties and social events for grad students at Stanford?

Then join the Graduate Student Programming Board!

The GSPB develops and implements social events for the graduate community. We have sponsored or cosponsored the Ballroom Dance party in August, the Luau in May, Grad Nights at the Coffee House and Sunday Flicks, lottery dinners, and many other events. We have ambitious plans for the coming year. In addition to our traditional large events, we hope to expand the lottery dinner program and add frequent, smaller events to provide continuity in the graduate social scene. Working with the GSPB is a rewarding experience. You get to meet a lot of interesting people and will be fed well. You decide how much to commit to the GSPB - you can organize an event or just help out; stay all year or just chip in for one event; or just lurk on our mailing list. Please let us know if you're interested in being a part of the GSPB! We can tell you more about the opportunities available. Dave Robinson (dbr) Pai-Ling Yin (pyin@leland.stanford.edu) GSPB Co-chairs
