sodium butyrate

An HDAC inhibitor, which is a compound that blocks the activity of histone deacetylases (HDACs). This leads to an increase in the overall level of transcriptional activity. This is thought to be therapeutic in a patient with HD because HDAC inhibitors help to combat the effects of HD by allowing essential genes to be transcribed, thus decreasing the rate of nerve cell death.
