transforming growth factor-ß (TGFß) superfamily

A group of neurotrophic factors (proteins in the nervous system that promote the growth of nerve cells) that includes three subfamilies, the best studied being the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GNDF) family, which has been shown to have protective effects in certain parts of the brain.
