My research interests range from the control of the physics of low dimensional transport: using field effect gating and novel proximity effects to study effects such as superconductivity, quantum oscillations and magnetism, to the materials science and chemistry of interfaces and surfaces. Specific materials of recent interest include: SrTiO3–based heterostructures using δ-doping or heterostructured with LaAlO3 or LaTiO3; KTaO3; (La,Sr)MnO3; TiO2; SrRuO3.

My favourite pastime is making pottery, which I enjoy both at Higher Fire Studios in San José, and the Stanford Ceramics Club. I enjoy cycling, tennis, cooking, chess and bird watching, with varying degrees of skill at each. In my previous life in Tokyo I was also developing the art of ikebanana, the fruitier version of Japanese flower arranging.
